So lets talk about building momentum with an email list.

We were using Jay as a fictitious blogger in Building Momentum with Blogging Part 1, so lets say Jay decides to ad an email subscription form to his blog.  This means that people that like his content and want more of it can submit their email address and blog updates directly into their email inbox.

This will drive traffic to the website exponentially.  If Jay gets 1 new subscriber per day than after 1 year he has 365 subscribers.  He can then send out an email about a new update to his blog and potentially get 365 visits to his blog, plus traffic that is coming from search engines.  After 10 years Jay could have 3650 blog subscribers...

So how do bloggers build up so much traffic and make money with their blog?

Lets take a look at momentum and we can break momentum down into a few different categories:

• Natural Search Results
• Email lists
• Website Referrals
• Brand

In this post I will focus on natural search results.  This is kind of basic but at the same time it seems to be one of the things that people give up on. 

So lets says Jay starts a blog, and does nothing except posts twice per day.

First lets focus on the stats.  After one week Jay will have 14 blog posts.  Google will crawl those posts and decide, based on their algorithms, where that page should rank in the google search results.  So lets say Jay gets 1 unique visitor per week from his first 14 posts.
